that is a great idea! I never thought about puttling the chocolate on the inside, either. I have the jello easter egg molds. I bet that might work, too. I'll have to try it and let you all know.

I like this recipe, never thought to put the chocolate inside the shell! The family will be delighted, I usually just fill plastic eggs with treats, this will be new and appreciated.

I had to include my chocolate easter egg recipe. I made these last year and they turned out great.

12 medium sized eggs
3 twelve oz bags of chocolate chips (white,
milk chocolate, semi-sweet, your choice)
assorted gel coloring

Preparing the eggs:
- Use an ice pick or the pointed end of a thermometer to pierce a hole in the large end of the egg. Enlarge the hole to a circle about 1/2 in diameter by pinching off tiny pieces of the shell with your fingertips.
- Shake the raw egg into a bowl (it can be saved for another use. It is easier to get all of the egg out of the shell if you stir it up a little first.
- Completely rinse out the inside of the shells with warm water.
- BOIL egg shell to kill any potential bacteria.
- Place clean shells on a baking sheet and dry them out in the oven for about 15-20 minutes at 250 degrees.
- Put the dry egg shells back into the egg carton hole-side-up.

Melting the chocolate:
- Put the desired amount of chocolate into various microwave containers.
- Place a container of chocolate chips into the microwave and heat on high for one minute, then stir. Heat another 15 seconds, then stir again. Repeat heating and stirring every 15 seconds until the chocolate is completely melted.
- If using white chocolate, add the food coloring (gel is preferable)and stir. Use the amount needed to create the color that you want.
- Spoon the melted chocolate into the eggshells until full. Wipe off any chocolate that has gotten on the outside of the shells. Place the eggs into the egg carton.
- Place the egg carton into the refrigerator and chill until firm. Once the chocolate has set, crack the shells off the egg and peel off. (I cracked the egg on the counter to help get it started, this didn't seem to affect the chocolate egg inside)
- You can then fill a basket with easter grass and place eggs inside. I added a few jelly beans for color

Don't let the length of the recipe intimidate you, this was an easy project! I put half dark chocolate and half white chocolate in the egg and stirred it a little and this created a marbelized effect.
